Open Day — Kaffee und Kuchen, bring a plate, see your kids, pretzels for sale

German Saturday School’s Open Day will be held on Saturday 13th September. It provides a great opportunity for families to witness GSS education in action. Come and observe the wonderful learning opportunity your children enjoy every Saturday morning. As usual, the GSS committee will be providing a lavish breakfast/morning tea spread consisting of Kaffee und Kuchen, and as usual, those lecker Brezel will be for sale. Please come and mingle with other families from the school committee and appreciate the efforts of the GSS. A plate contribution is welcome!

Visit the classes from 9 to 10am and then join us in the hall for performances and presentations from 10:45 to noon.

If you have any which you do not watch anymore feel free to donate them to the GSS. And if you’ve got DVDs out on an informal “long-term loan”, please get them off the shelf, watch them and return them on Saturday.

GSS Committee of management vacant positions: Treasurer Assistant, and President (2015)
Apart from the paid teachers and principal, the running of the GSS relies entirely on the volunteer work done by the committee of management, which is made up of parents and currently one grandparent. The roles of the committee are organised around specific tasks such as secretary, registration and payroll, as well as general committee members. Every year we encourage new parents to the school to become involved to keep the committee vibrant and the school strong.

Currently we are looking for someone to assist the treasurer and a new president for 2015. If you are interested in becoming involved and contributing to the running of the GSS please enquire on Open Day. Committee members will be wearing name tags so seek them out, please!

School fees
There are still some families who have not paid their full fees. Please note, we expect these accounts to be finalised by November 30th otherwise your child/ren cannot attend the GSS next year. Seek out a committee member to discuss your personal situation if need be.

Pünktlichkeit
Teachers have expressed that many students are still arriving late to class on Saturday mornings, some as late as half an hour! This is a disruption to the class and we kindly ask parents to respect that classes begin at 9am.

Fleissig!
We tip our hat to the students who worked hard to prepare for the Fit in Deutsch tests and those who competed in the AGTV Poetry Competition.

Nearly ten GSS students are moving on to the Poetry Competition State Final this weekend. We wish good luck and good fun to these students!

  • Anton, Sophia and Lucca in Year 5 and 6 (open section)
  • Thomas and Amy in Year 5 (DaF)
  • Alexandra in Year 6 (DaF)
  • Amy and Hannah in Year 7 and 8 (open section)
  • Joan and Sophia in the Year 9 (open section)

German lessons for adults, too
Leni Kandybko is an experienced teacher who offers German classes to adults at the Clifton Hill Primary School during GSS hours. She teaches beginners from 9 to 10:15am and intermediate/advanced from 10:45am to noon. She’ll be available during the Open Day to answer your questions and talk to you about signing up on a term-by-term basis.

Check us out!
We’re on Facebook and Twitter.

We look forward to seeing you all at the GSS Open Day on Saturday 13th September!
